## How to do it in Tella

1. Open your video in the Tella editor and open the Tella Agent.
2. Describe the sounds and where they go: transitions, clicks, reveals or words.
3. Preview, then drag the live volume sliders or ask for changes.
4. To add a sound by hand, open [Overlay → Sounds](https://www.tella.com/help/editing/sound-effects).

## Good to know

- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- You can set each sound effect anywhere from 0 to 200% volume.
- You can undo a sound effect like any other edit.

### Where do Tella's sound effects come from?

Tella's built-in library groups sounds into Interface, Transitions, Reactions, Atmosphere and Everyday. You can also upload your own audio or generate a sound from a text description.

### Can I add background music the same way?

No. Background music is a separate setting in Tella, with its own track under your voice. See the help article on adding background music.

### Can Claude or ChatGPT add sound effects to my Tella video?

Yes. Tella's [MCP server](https://www.tella.com/mcp) has tools to list the sound library, generate a sound effect and place it.
