# Get a transcript and a summary of your video

> Tella transcribes every recording and upload automatically, and the transcript appears in the editor's Script panel. ## How do I get a transcript and a summary of a recorded video?

## How to do it in Tella

1. Record or upload your video. Tella transcribes it automatically.
2. Open it in the Tella editor and open the Tella Agent chat.
3. Ask for the summary you need: who it's for, how long, what to include.
4. Click the file card to open or download it.

## Good to know

- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- The transcript leaves out anything you've cut from the video.
- Names or product terms spelled wrong? Add them to your transcription dictionary under Settings → Language, then retranscribe the video.
- Anyone watching your shared video can generate their own summary from its Ask tab while document generation is on.

## Questions people ask

### Can viewers read the transcript or a summary of my video?

Yes. The shared video can show a transcript tab, and its Ask tab writes a summary or other document for anyone watching. Turn either off in [Viewer settings](https://www.tella.com/help/sharing/viewer-settings).

### What if the transcript is in the wrong language?

Retranscribe it. Under Transcript language, in Setup or the Script panel's More actions menu, pick the language that was spoken and click Update. Retranscribing doesn't translate.

### Can Claude or ChatGPT summarize my Tella videos?

Yes. An AI app connected to Tella's [MCP server](https://www.tella.com/mcp) reads a video's transcript with get_transcript and summarizes it. search_videos finds where a phrase was said across your workspace.
