# Edit new recordings automatically

> Automated editing in Settings → Preferences removes filler words and silences, adds auto zooms, and can run the Tella Agent on every new recording.

**Automated editing** edits each new recording as soon as it finishes. Turn it on in **Settings → Preferences**, under **Recording**. It has two parts: **Instant** steps that use no AI credits, and an **Agent** prompt that runs the [Tella Agent](https://www.tella.com/docs/help/editing/edit-with-the-tella-agent.md) for you.

## Turn on Automated editing

1. Click your **workspace name** in the top left of the sidebar and go to **Settings**.
2. Go to **Preferences** under **Account**.
3. Under **Recording**, find **Automated editing** and pick an option from its dropdown:
   * **Off:** new recordings are not edited.
   * **Auto edit:** turns on **Remove filler words**, **Remove silences** (**Natural**), **Auto zooms**, and **Edit with the agent** with the auto cut and auto layouts skills.
   * **Custom:** shown when you pick any other combination of the steps below.

Changes save as soon as you make them. Your choice applies to new recordings only, not to videos you have already recorded.

## Instant steps

The **Instant** steps run as soon as your recording is processed. They don't use the agent or AI credits.

* **Remove filler words:** cuts ums, uhs and other filler words.
* **Remove silences:** cuts the pauses between what you say. Choose **Natural**, **Fast**, or **Faster** next to it, the same modes as [removing silences in the editor](https://www.tella.com/docs/help/editing/remove-silences-automatically.md#whats-the-difference-between-natural-fast-and-faster).
* **Auto zooms:** adds [click-based zooms](https://www.tella.com/docs/help/editing/add-a-zoom.md#apply-zooms-automatically-after-recording) where you click. Zooms are placed after the filler words and silences are cut.

## Edit with the agent

Turn on **Edit with the agent** to have the Tella Agent edit each new recording after the instant steps. It uses [AI credits](https://www.tella.com/docs/help/billing/ai-credits.md).

1. Check **Edit with the agent**.
2. In the prompt box, describe what the agent should do with each new recording.
3. Type **/** or click **Add skill** to attach skills. You can pick from the same list as the editor's chat: Tella's built-in skills and [your own and your workspace's skills](https://www.tella.com/docs/help/editing/create-a-skill.md).

The prompt saves when you click out of the box. A skill saves as soon as you add or remove it.

The agent works without anyone watching, so it doesn't stop to ask you questions. It knows what the instant steps already did, and may adjust a zoom if its own edits make one wrong. Its report and undo steps appear in a new chat on the video in the editor.

If the agent can't run for you, for example because you are out of AI credits, the agent step is skipped. The instant steps still run.

## What viewers see while Tella edits

While the filler word and silence cuts or the agent are still running, the video's share page and embed show "Tella is editing this video…" instead of the player. The player comes back when editing finishes, or after 30 minutes at most. Owners and editors can still open the video in the editor at any time.

With only **Auto zooms** on, the video is not held back.

> Automated editing only changes the new recording. You can review, adjust or undo any of its edits in the editor, like edits you make yourself.
