# Create a pop-out camera effect

> Place yourself in front of a shaped camera frame and customize its background, depth, outline, and colour.

Pop-out cuts you out of your camera recording and places you in front of a smaller camera frame. Use it to add depth while keeping your original camera background or replacing it with a colour.

## Turn on Pop-out

1. Open your video and click **Layout**.
2. Choose a layout that shows your camera inside a frame, such as **Camera Bubble** or a centered camera-only layout.
3. Turn on **Pop-out** in the layout controls.

You can also open **Customize layout** and turn on **Pop-out** under **Camera style**. The effect applies to the current base layout or layout section.

<Note>Pop-out needs a clip with a camera recording and a layout that frames it. It is unavailable for screen-only and full-frame camera layouts.</Note>

## Customize the frame

Open **Customize layout** and use the Pop-out settings:

* **Background:** choose **Original** to keep your camera recording inside the frame, or **Colour** to use a solid fill.
* **Colour:** choose the frame colour when **Background** is set to **Colour**.
* **Pop-out amount:** control how far the frame drops behind you.
* **Outline:** adjust the frame outline width. Increase it above 0% to reveal **Outline colour**.
* **Outline colour:** choose the colour of the frame outline.

Use **Camera style** to switch the frame between **Circle**, **Square**, **Landscape**, and **Portrait**. Pop-out keeps the selected shape as you adjust the other settings. The frame's corners follow the **Shape** you chose in the **Style** tool (**Square**, **Round**, or **Squircle**), so a Square camera style can give you a sharp, rounded, or squircle frame to match your other layers. <Tip>Add a shadow from the **Style** tool to make the frame stand out from the canvas. The shadow follows the Pop-out frame's shape.</Tip>

## Use Pop-out with other layouts

Pop-out stays enabled when you switch between compatible framed-camera layouts. A [**Cut-out** layout](/docs/help/editing/cut-out-camera-background) removes the frame completely, so choosing it turns Pop-out off. If you turn on Pop-out while using Cut-out, Tella changes the camera to a square frame first.
