# Agent chats

> Start Tella's editor agent in a video and follow what it does.

Hand work to Tella's editor agent: it edits a video the way it does in the editor's agent chat, as if you had typed your prompt there. Start one chat per video, for example one per YouTube link with the link in the prompt, and check back on each. The agent works in the background and spends the workspace's AI Credits.

## start\_agent\_chat

Start a chat with the editor agent in a video you can edit. Without `videoId`, it first makes a new, empty video for the chat. Returns the `chatId`, the `videoId` and the `url` that opens the chat in the editor.

**prompt** `string` *required*

What the agent should do, in full: it is all the agent knows. Up to 20,000 characters.

**videoId** `string`

A video you can edit. Leave it out to start the chat in a new video.

**name** `string`

The new video's name, up to 120 characters. Only used without `videoId`.

## list\_agent\_chats

List the agent chats in a video, most recently active first. Each has a `status`: `running` while a turn is working, `waiting_for_answer` when the agent asked something (answer it at the chat's `url`), and `idle` once its turn ended. `lastReply` is the agent's last reply. Call it every minute or so to follow a chat you started.

**videoId** `string` *required*

Video ID
