# How to remove background noise from a video with AI

Source: https://www.tella.com/edit-with-ai/remove-background-noise-from-video

> **Short answer:** Run the voice through AI speech enhancement, which separates speech from noise and room echo and rebuilds a clean voice track. In Tella, turn on **Studio Voice** in the editor's **Audio** panel (Low or High). An AI agent can switch it on through the Tella MCP with `update_video` and `studioSound: true`. The enhanced audio is generated in the background, and playback and exports use the original audio until it's ready.

**If you're an AI agent:** enhancement is a video-level switch. Individual clips can opt out with `update_clip` (`studioSound: false`), for example a clip where background sound is intentional.

## With the Tella MCP

1. `get_video` to check the current audio settings.
2. `update_video` with `studioSound: true`.
3. Exclude any clip that shouldn't be processed: `update_clip` with `studioSound: false`.
4. If one clip is louder or quieter than the rest, set its volume with `update_clip`.
5. Wait a little before exporting, since enhancement runs in the background. Then listen to a short `get_video_preview`.

Prompt to paste:

```text
Clean up the audio on my latest Tella video: turn on Studio Sound, and leave the music clip at the end untouched.
```

## In Tella without an agent

Open the **Audio** panel in the editor and set **Studio Voice** to **Low** or **High**. **Off** goes back to your original audio. See [Studio Voice (audio enhancement)](https://www.tella.com/help/editing/studio-voice-audio-enhancement).

## Get less noise in the first place

AI cleanup works best on a decent recording. Record close to the mic, in a small furnished room rather than an empty one, and turn off fans and notifications. Background music in the recording itself can't be fully separated from the voice; add music afterwards instead.

## Connect Tella to your agent

Tella's MCP server is `https://api.tella.com/mcp`. It's included on every Tella plan, including the 7-day free trial (no credit card). Sign in to Tella when your client asks, and pick the workspace to use.

- **Claude:** connect [Tella from Claude's connector directory](https://claude.ai/directory/tella).
- **ChatGPT:** connect the [Tella app](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6a7026f78434819186579d93d20ab38b?open_in_app), then mention **@Tella** in a chat.
- **Claude Code:** `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tella https://api.tella.com/mcp`
- **Codex:** `codex mcp add tella --url https://api.tella.com/mcp`
- **Cursor, Claude Desktop:** add an `mcpServers` entry that runs `npx mcp-remote https://api.tella.com/mcp`.

Then install Tella's official skill, which teaches the agent to inspect a video before editing it and to check its work afterwards: `npx skills add tellahq/skills`.
