# How to migrate your videos from Loom to Tella

> Download or import Loom videos, migrate a private library, and find switching offers for teams of any size.

## Download a single Loom video (free, no account)

You can download any public Loom video as an MP4 without creating a Tella account. The free downloader accepts Loom share links, embed links, and playlist links that include a video ID, with no software to install.

#### Steps

1. Copy the public video's Loom share or embed URL. You can also copy a playlist URL that contains `?v=` followed by the video ID.
2. Paste the link into the downloader and click **Download MP4**.
3. Save the MP4 to your device. The download link is valid for 1 hour.

After the downloader prepares your video, you can also click **Edit in Tella**. Create your Tella account, and Tella opens the Migrate page with the Loom link filled in and starts importing the video automatically.

<Note>
  Only public Loom videos can be downloaded or imported this way. A playlist link downloads only the video identified by its `v` parameter, not the full playlist. If the video is private, deleted, or missing from the link, the downloader stops and explains the problem. Videos longer than 30 minutes or larger than 2 GB are not supported by the free tool. To export private videos or your full library, use Tella Transfer instead.

## Export your full or private Loom library

Tella Transfer is a free desktop app that exports one video, a folder, or your entire Loom library. It can access private videos and Loom Spaces without making them public first.

#### Steps

1. Download and open Tella Transfer.
2. Sign in to Loom in the login window on your computer.
3. Select a video, a folder, or your full library.
4. Save the videos as MP4 files or import them directly into Tella.

Your Loom credentials stay on your computer, and Tella Transfer only reads your Loom account. It doesn't rename, move, or delete anything. When you import into Tella, each Loom folder becomes a playlist.

  You don't need a Tella account if you only want to save MP4 files to your computer.

### Folders and restarting local MP4 downloads

When you save MP4s to your computer, Tella Transfer writes every selected video directly into the destination folder. It doesn't recreate your Loom folder structure on disk. When you import into Tella instead, each Loom folder becomes a playlist.

Tella Transfer doesn't currently save a resume checkpoint or skip files already in the destination. If you restart the same selection after cancelling or running out of space, it downloads those videos again and replaces files with the same names.

### Download a folder or only unfiled videos

To download one Loom folder:

1. Click the **Folders** view.
2. Clear any existing selection with the **X** in the selection bar.
3. Select the checkbox beside the folder. Selecting a folder also includes videos in its subfolders.
4. Click **Download**.

To download only videos that aren't in a Loom folder:

1. Use the checkbox in the table header to select all videos.
2. Click the **Folders** view.
3. Deselect every top-level folder using the checkbox beside its name. This also deselects its subfolders.
4. The remaining selection contains only unfiled videos. Click **Download**.

### Troubleshooting Transfer downloads

If a Loom video fails to download ("couldn't download" error):

1. Quit Tella Transfer completely.
2. [Download and reinstall the latest version](https://www.tella.com/tools/tella-transfer#downloads).
3. Disconnect your Loom account in Transfer, then sign in again.
4. Retry with a single video to confirm downloads are working before selecting your full library.

## Import public Loom videos into Tella

Migrate your videos from Loom in less than 2 minutes.

1. Log in to your Loom account and set the videos you want to migrate to public. Alternatively, put all the videos you want to migrate into a public Loom folder.
2. Copy the video's Loom share or embed link, a playlist link containing `?v=`, or a public folder link. A playlist link imports only the video identified by its `v` parameter.
3. In Tella, go to [Workspace Name > Settings > Migrate](https://www.tella.tv/settings/migrate).

  Already have the MP4s on your computer? The same **Settings → Migrate** page has an **Upload multiple videos** section below the Loom import. Drop in a batch of files (up to 5 GB each) and Tella uploads them all as videos.

4. Paste the URL of your video or folder, then click **Import**.

All your videos will upload automatically into a new playlist called **Loom Import \[date]** in your library. This playlist is private to you, even if you run the import inside a shared workspace.

  If you refresh or revisit the Migrate page while an import is in progress, the page picks up the in-flight import and keeps showing its progress.

  Upload time may vary depending on the number of videos you are migrating.

<Warning>
  **Loom Spaces links aren't supported.** Links in the format `loom.com/spaces/...` are private to your Loom workspace and can't be fetched by Tella. To import videos from a Space, move or copy them to a folder in **My Library**, share that folder with a public link, then paste the `loom.com/share/folder/...` link into the Migrate page.

## Save when you switch from Loom

Teams with at least 20 paid seats can apply to have the unused balance of an active annual Loom plan credited to their first annual Tella invoice. Pro, Premium, and Enterprise annual plans qualify.

#### Apply for a buyout

1. Open the Loom buyout page and click **Apply for a buyout**.
2. Enter your paid Loom seats and renewal date.
3. Attach your most recent Loom invoice as a PDF, PNG, or JPG up to 4 MB.
4. Click **Apply**. Tella will confirm your eligibility and credit amount within one business day.

  The credit is calculated from the unused part of your Loom term when your Tella annual plan starts. It can't exceed your first annual Tella invoice, be paid out in cash, carry forward, or be combined with LOOM30 or another promotion.
