# Use speaker notes while recording (teleprompter)

> Use Tella's built-in speaker notes or free browser teleprompter to read and control a script while you record.

Speaker notes are Tella's built-in teleprompter. You can read a script or talking points while recording without the notes appearing in your final video.

## Use speaker notes in the web recorder

1. Open the web recorder and set up your camera and microphone.
2. Click **More** in the recorder controls.
3. Select **Show Speaker Notes**.
4. Write or paste your script into the notes panel.
5. Start recording when you are ready.

Your notes stay available between recording sessions on the same device.

## Resize or hide your notes

* Drag the handle at the bottom of the notes panel to make it taller or shorter. Tella limits the height to keep your recording preview visible.
* Click the **minus** button to hide the panel. Open **More** and select **Show Speaker Notes** to restore it.

Tella remembers the panel height on your current device.

## Use teleprompter playback

Click **Play** in the notes panel to start auto-scrolling your script. Click **Pause** whenever you need to stop.

If you scroll the notes manually, playback continues from the new position. When playback reaches the end, click **Play** again to restart from the top.

#### Change the text size or speed

1. Click **Speaker notes preferences** in the notes panel.
2. Choose **Text size**, then select **Small**, **Medium**, or **Large**.
3. Choose **Playback speed**, then select:
   * **Slow:** 120 words per minute
   * **Medium:** 160 words per minute
   * **Fast:** 200 words per minute

Tella remembers your text size and playback speed on your current device.

  Keep the notes close to your camera so you can follow your script while maintaining eye contact.

## Use the free online teleprompter

You can use Tella's [free online teleprompter](https://www.tella.com/tools/teleprompter) in any browser without creating an account. It works on computers, phones, and tablets.

1. Write or paste your script.
2. Set your reading speed in words per minute and choose a text size.
3. Turn on **Mirror** if you use beam-splitter teleprompter glass.
4. Click **Start teleprompter**. Your script begins scrolling after a three-second countdown.

The tool displays your script but does not record video. Run it alongside Tella or another recorder on the same screen or a second device.

#### Control the teleprompter while reading

* Press **Space** to pause or resume.
* Press the **up** or **down arrow** to change the speed by 10 words per minute.
* Press the **left** or **right arrow** to move backward or forward a few lines.
* Press **M** to mirror the text.
* Press **R** to restart from the top.
* Press **Esc** to close the teleprompter.

## Use speaker notes while sharing your screen

Speaker notes stay inside the web recorder, so they are not visible when you switch to another window.

* With two monitors, keep Tella and your speaker notes on one display while sharing content from the other.
* With one monitor, return to the Tella recorder when you need to view or control your notes.

## Use speaker notes in the Mac app

Open the **…** menu in the top right of the recorder window and choose **Speaker notes**. A floating notepad appears that you can drag anywhere on screen and resize. It stays above your other windows and does not appear in the final recording, which makes it useful for screen recordings when you do not have a second monitor.

Inside the notepad:

* Click **play** to start the teleprompter scrolling, and **pause** to stop. When it reaches the end, the button restarts it from the top.
* Open the **…** menu in the notepad to set **Transparency** (on or off), **Text size** (Small, Medium, Large), and **Teleprompter speed**: **Slow** (100 wpm), **Natural** (150 wpm), **Medium** (200 wpm), or **Fast** (300 wpm).

Your notes, text size, and speed are remembered on that Mac.

## Use speaker notes in the Windows app

Open **Speaker Notes** to show a separate teleprompter window. You can type or paste your script, move the window, and set its **Transparency**, **Text size**, and **Teleprompter speed** from the window's menu, the same options as the Mac app. The notes never appear in your recording.

There's no shortcut for speaker notes out of the box. To add one, open the Windows app settings, choose **Keyboard shortcuts**, and assign a combination to **Open Speaker Notes**. It must use at least two modifier keys (**Ctrl**, **Alt**, **Shift**, or **Win**).
