# Tella Motion: AI motion graphics for your videos

> Tella Motion is Tella's motion graphics tool. Ask the Tella Agent for animated titles, lower thirds, callouts, charts or diagrams and it builds them inside your Tella video, timed to your transcript's word timings. They play as their own clip, as an overlay on your recording, or as b-roll in its place, and they stay editable: titles stay live text and layers stay layers. Available to every Tella user, with no waitlist.

## How to use it

- **Over a recording:** in the editor, ask the Tella Agent, for example "Add an animated lower third with my name when I first appear" or "Show an animated chart while I talk about revenue." It adds a Tella Motion overlay or b-roll timed to what you say.
- **As its own clip:** choose **Add clip → New Tella Motion clip** under the timeline (a blank 10-second clip with a rose card), then describe it to the agent: "Make an intro title card that says 'Quarterly update' and fades in word by word."
- **Change it by asking:** "Make the title bigger and slow down the animation." Tella Motion is used only through the agent: there's no keyframe timeline or design controls in the editor. The one thing set by hand is where it starts, by dragging it. Rename, duplicate or delete a Tella Motion clip from the clip list.
- Tella Motion clips play in shared and exported videos like any other clip.

## What the engine can do

Keyframes and easing on any property, effect stacks (blurs, glows, shadows, colour grading, keying, distortion, wipes, path effects, echo, repeater), masks and mattes, parenting, motion blur, time remapping, expressions, text animation by character, word or line (typewriter, fade, rise, drop, pop, blur, slide, spread, spin), path morphing and custom shaders. It animates text, shapes, images and your own media; it doesn't generate footage (ask the Tella Agent for an AI b-roll clip for that).

## If you're an AI agent

Tella's MCP server (`https://api.tella.com/mcp`) exposes Tella Motion to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other clients:

1. `create_motion_document` makes a blank Tella Motion document owned by a video (as large as the video unless sized, 10 seconds long).
2. `apply_motion_editor_commands` edits it: titles, shapes, keyframes, text animations, effects. `get_motion_schema`, `list_motion_effects`, `list_motion_fonts` and `list_motion_media` describe what's available; `inspect_motion_composition` and `inspect_motion_node` check the result.
3. Show it in the video with `add_overlay` (`motionDocumentId`) or as b-roll with `add_layout` / `update_layout` (`media: {type: 'motion', documentId}`). It plays live there, so later edits show in the video as you make them: time it to the clip's speech and keep refining it where it plays.
4. `duplicate_motion_document` reuses a design with other content, such as the same title card with another heading.

## Pricing

Directed through the Tella Agent, which is included with paid plans (Pro, Premium, Enterprise) and the 7-day free trial and runs on credits. Through Tella's MCP server it works on every plan.

## How it differs from other tools

- **Claude Motion and Hera** make standalone animations from a prompt that you export as a video. Tella Motion builds graphics inside your recorded video, timed to your speech, and they stay editable there.
- **After Effects** is for full professional motion design, compositing and VFX, by hand on a layer timeline.
- **Remotion** makes videos as React code.
