Cut out removes the background from camera recordings or uploaded footage of a person. Use Layout or the Cut-out controls in Customize layout.
Cut out removes the background from your camera recording or uploaded footage of a person so only you appear on the canvas, over your background or screen recording, with no frame. Pick the Cut out layout under Layout, or choose Cut-out as the camera style in Customize layout.
Open a video that contains a camera recording or uploaded footage of a person.
Click Layout in the editor sidebar.
Find Cut out and select the layout tile.
If your clip contains both a screen and camera, choose which side of the screen to place yourself on. In a portrait or square video, choose whether to appear above or below the screen.
Optional: in a landscape video, turn on Perspective to angle the screen in 3D so it recedes toward you, with you standing in front of it in the bottom corner.
Tella may show Preparing cut-out while it processes your footage. You can keep editing while it prepares the result, but Download stays unavailable until processing finishes.
You can add or remove the Cut-out camera style without changing the rest of a layout:
Open Layout and select Customize layout.
Find the Cut-out control for the camera. On a fullscreen camera layout it is a toggle; on other camera layouts, choose Cut-out under Camera style (pick another shape, such as Circle, to turn it off).
Turn Cut-out on to remove the camera background, or off to restore the camera frame.
You can continue to move and resize yourself on the canvas after applying Cut-out.
Cut-out works best when you are clearly visible and separated from your background.
For uploaded footage, the Cut out preset fills the canvas. To remove the background while keeping a centered or resized layout instead:
Select the uploaded clip and open Layout.
Open Customize layout.
In the Screen section, turn on Cut-out.
The toggle appears when the clip’s own uploaded footage is the source in the Screen slot. It keeps your current layout and applies to the current layout section. For a centered portrait upload, the frame widens while keeping its height, so the person stays the same size.Cut out is not available for screen-only recordings. Cut-out presets saved from uploaded clips also stay hidden in Favorites when you select a screen-only recording.
