Blur or replace the room behind you after recording: open Style in the editor (press B) and set Camera background to Blur or Color. Tella cuts you out of the camera recording and changes only what is behind you, so your camera keeps its shape, border and shadow. It applies to the whole clip.

Blur your background in the editor

  1. Open your video in the editor and select the clip.
  2. Click Style in the sidebar, or press B.
  3. Under Camera background, choose Blur.
  4. Drag Strength to set how blurred the room is.
Tella may show Preparing background while it processes your camera recording. You can keep editing, but Download stays unavailable until it finishes.

Replace your background with a solid color

  1. Under Camera background in Style, choose Color.
  2. Click Color to pick the fill.
To go back to the room you recorded in, choose Original.

Use the same background in every clip

The background applies per clip. Click Apply to all clips under Camera background to copy the current choice to the camera in every clip. Duplicating or copying a clip keeps its background.

Which camera styles show the background?

The background shows in the round, square, portrait and Blob camera styles and in full-frame camera layouts. With Pop-out, it shows inside the frame. It is not shown with Cut out, which removes the room completely. See Remove your camera background with Cut out and Create a pop-out camera effect.

Can I use an image as my camera background?

Not in the editor yet. You can choose an image background in the recorder before you record; see Change your camera background. To change what appears around your camera rather than behind you, use Background in Style; see Backgrounds.
Like Cut out, this works best when you are clearly separated from your background. Hair and fast movement can leave soft edges.
