When you export a vertical video to Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or LinkedIn, the app adds its own UI on top of your video — captions, action buttons, usernames, and music labels. Social safe zones show you exactly where those elements will appear so you can keep your important content clear of them.

Availability

Social safe zones are available only on portrait videos with a 9:16 canvas. If your video uses another aspect ratio, change the canvas size to 9:16 first.

Turn on safe zones

  1. Open your video in the editor.
  2. In the Setup sidebar, find the Social safe zones section.
  3. Toggle it on.
  4. Pick a platform: Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or LinkedIn.
A high-fidelity overlay appears on the canvas showing the platform’s UI in the position it will cover your video. The overlay fades while you’re interacting with the canvas so it doesn’t get in the way of editing.

Switch platforms from the toolbar

You can also control safe zones from the quick toolbar next to the canvas size selector:
  • Click the safe zones button to open the platform menu.
  • Choose a platform to preview, or select Hide to turn the overlay off.
The button shows the active platform’s icon when safe zones are on, and a hidden-eye icon when they’re off.

Tips

  • Keep titles, faces, and key visuals inside the clear central area — away from the bottom action bar and the right-side buttons.
  • Switch between platforms to confirm your composition works everywhere you plan to post.
  • Safe zones are a preview only. They don’t get exported with your video.
