When you export a vertical video to Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or LinkedIn, the app adds its own UI on top of your video — captions, action buttons, usernames, and music labels. Social safe zones show you exactly where those elements will appear so you can keep your important content clear of them.

Availability

Social safe zones are available only on portrait videos with a 9:16 canvas. If your video uses another aspect ratio, change the canvas size to 9:16 first.

Turn on safe zones

  1. Open your video in the editor.
  2. Click Layout in the sidebar.
  3. Click Layout settings (the sliders icon in the panel header).
  4. Under Social safe zones, turn the preview on.
  5. Pick Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or LinkedIn.
A high-fidelity overlay appears on the canvas showing where the platform’s UI will cover your video. The overlay fades while you interact with the canvas so it doesn’t get in the way of editing. To switch platforms or hide the overlay, return to Layout settings → Social safe zones.

Tips

  • Keep titles, faces, and key visuals inside the clear central area — away from the bottom action bar and the right-side buttons.
  • Switch between platforms to confirm your composition works everywhere you plan to post.
  • Safe zones are a preview only. They don’t get exported with your video.
