The editor shows Update Safari to use the editor or Update your browser to use the editor when your browser doesn’t support WebGPU, the graphics feature the editor uses to draw your video. Update your browser, or open the video in the latest version of Chrome. Your video and edits are safe.

Update Safari

The editor needs Safari 26 or later.
  1. Open System Settings → General → Software Update and install any macOS or Safari update.
  2. Quit and reopen Safari, then open your video in the editor and click Try again.
To check your version, open Safari and choose Safari → About Safari in the menu bar. If Software Update doesn’t offer Safari 26, your Mac can’t run it. Open the video in Chrome instead — the editor works in Chrome on older Macs too.

Update Firefox

Firefox only supports the editor on recent versions for Windows and Mac. Update Firefox from Firefox → About Firefox (Mac) or Help → About Firefox (Windows), restart it, and click Try again. Firefox on Linux doesn’t support the editor yet. Use Chrome instead.

Update another browser

Update your browser to its latest version and relaunch it. If the message stays, open the video in the latest version of Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Brave.

Which browsers support the editor?

The editor works in the latest versions of:
  • Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera on Windows and Mac
  • Chrome on ChromeOS
  • Safari 26 or later on Mac
  • Firefox on Windows and Mac
  • Chrome or Brave on Linux (see Hardware acceleration on Linux)
The editor isn’t available on phones or tablets.

Still seeing the message after updating?

If the message changes to Hardware acceleration isn’t available, your browser now supports the editor but its graphics are turned off. Follow Fix “Hardware acceleration isn’t available”.
