Where to download Tella

Tella records your screen, camera and microphone on a computer. There are three things you can install, and one way to record without installing anything:

  • Tella for Mac — download it from the Mac page or the direct download link. It needs macOS 13.1 (Ventura) or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
  • Tella for Windows (beta) — download it from the Windows page. It needs Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, including Windows 11. There are separate installers for Intel or AMD PCs and for ARM PCs such as Surface Pro X or Snapdragon laptops.
  • Tella for Chrome — install the extension from the Chrome page and pin it, then record any tab, window or your whole screen from inside Chrome.
  • No download — the web recorder runs in a current Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave or Arc. Sign in, click Record and choose Your browser.

You can also click Record in the web app at any time and pick the desktop app for the computer you're on; Tella offers the download from there.

Every new workspace starts with a 7-day free trial, and no credit card is needed.

Which one should you download?

  • Want the best recording quality? Use the Mac or Windows app. Both record natively in up to 4K and capture system audio with no extra software. On Mac, system audio is on by default; on Windows, turn on System audio in the app settings before you record.
  • Live in Chrome all day? The extension starts a recording from any tab. When you share a tab, Tella also records your cursor movement and clicks, which it can use to add zooms automatically.
  • On a locked-down or older computer? The web recorder needs no install. If your Mac can't run Ventura or your PC is on an older Windows build, record in the browser instead.
  • Recording an iPhone or iPad? Connect it to your Mac with a cable and pick it under Displays in Tella for Mac. Wireless AirPlay mirroring records as a black rectangle, so use the cable.

Whichever you record with, the video lands in the same Tella library and opens in the same editor in your browser.

For reliable uploads you need an upload speed of at least 2.5–5 Mbps. The desktop apps save recordings to your disk before uploading them, so keep 5–10 GB free.

Is there a Tella mobile app?

No. There is no Tella app to download from the App Store or Google Play. In a phone or tablet browser you can sign in, record a quick camera video, watch and share videos, and browse your library. Editing, multiple clips and screen recording with the full recorder need a computer.

How to record your first video after downloading

  1. Open Tella and click Record. In the app or extension, choose your screen (a display, a window or a tab), your camera and your microphone. Turn any of them off if you don't need it.
  2. Record one or more clips. Pause and resume as you go, or restart a take. Clips combine into one video, so you can re-record a single section instead of starting over.
  3. Edit in the browser. Cut mistakes from the transcript, remove silences, change layouts between screen and camera, add zooms and subtitles, and set a background.
  4. Share or download. Copy a link that's ready to watch straight away, embed it, or publish it to YouTube, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Instagram or Facebook from Share → Publish.

How to download a Tella video

To save a finished video to your computer, open it in the editor and click Download next to Share (on a narrow screen it's under More). You can download the video as an MP4, the audio on its own as an M4A, or each clip separately as a ZIP. Exporting in 4K needs a paid plan.

To let viewers download a video you've shared, open Share → Viewer settings and turn on Allow downloads. A Download button then appears on the video's page next to Copy link. See Share and download your video.

Looking to save someone else's Loom video instead? That's a different tool: see the Loom video downloader.
