Fix a mistake in your video without re-recording all of it

Ask the Tella Agent to cut a wrong sentence, or record a new take of one step from the chat and put it in place. The rest of your video stays as it is.

Try it in Tella

Paste a prompt into the Tella Agent in the editor, or into Claude or ChatGPT connected to Tella, then ask for changes.

At about 2:10 I say the Brindlewood trial lasts 30 days. It's 14. Cut that sentence, write me a one-line script that says it correctly, and give me a recorder card so I can record it. When I'm done, move the new clip to where the cut was.
  • Broken step in a demo

In the Quillmark invoicing demo, the export step fails on screen around 4:30. Split the clip just before I click Export and just after the error closes, delete the middle part, and help me record that step again to put in its place.

  • Wrong name in a lesson

I call the Harbor Lane dashboard the 'Reports page' twice in this lesson. Find both sentences in the transcript, list them with timestamps, and cut them only after I say yes.

How do I fix a mistake in a recording without re-recording the whole video?

In Tella, cut a wrong sentence by selecting it in the transcript and pressing Delete, or ask the Tella Agent to remove it. To replace a broken step, split the clip where the mistake starts and ends, delete the middle part, record a new clip and drag it into the gap. Ask the Tella Agent to help you record and click Go to recorder on the card it shows.

How to do it

  1. Open your video in the Tella editor and tell the Tella Agent what's wrong and where, or select the words in the transcript and click Add to chat.
  2. If the line only needs to go, ask the agent to cut it.
  3. If the step needs a new take, ask the agent to split the clip before and after it and delete the middle part.
  4. Ask the agent to help you record the fix, then click Go to recorder on its card and record.
  5. The new clip is added at the end of the video. Drag it into the gap, or ask the agent to move it there.

Good to know

  • Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
  • You can only cut words in the transcript, not reword them. Editing subtitles changes what viewers read, not what they hear.
  • Re-record deletes the clip's recording and all its edits. Split first so it only replaces the broken part.

Frequently asked questions

In Tella, Remove mistakes finds retakes, false starts and repeated lines you already recorded, and cuts the ones you approve. Fixing a mistake is for content that was wrong, like a wrong number or a step that broke on screen, where you cut it or record a new take of just that part.

Yes. Split the clip before and after the mistake, then choose Re-record from the middle clip's ⋯ menu (or click Redo in the left toolbar). Your new recording replaces that clip in the timeline, and the clips around it keep their transcript, zooms and layouts.

Yes. An AI app connected to Tella's MCP server can cut words with cut_clip_by_transcript, split a clip with split_clip and remove a part with delete_clip. It can also send you a recording link for a new clip. That clip is added at the end of the video, and reorder_clip moves it into place.
