Split your webcam and screen for just the demo
Ask the Tella Agent to put your webcam and screen side by side for the demo only, and keep full camera for the intro.
Try it in Tella
Paste a prompt into the Tella Agent in the editor, or into Claude or ChatGPT connected to Tella, then ask for changes.
Keep my intro and wrap-up on full camera. From "let me show you the dashboard" until "that's the demo", use Split Left 50/50 with my camera on the left. Use a smooth transition in and a hard cut back.
Logistics prospect follow-up. Keep full camera for the first 30 seconds. When I open the shipment tracking screen, switch to Split Right, app on the left. Return to full camera when I get to next steps.
CLI demo. Keep full camera for the intro. For the terminal part, use Split Right Small so the terminal stays visible, then screen only while I scroll logs. Save the split as a favorite called Dev demo split.
How do I put my webcam and screen side by side for just the demo part of a video?
Ask the Tella Agent in the Tella editor to use a side-by-side layout for the demo and full camera for the intro. It reads your transcript to find where the demo starts and ends, then adds a Side-by-Side layout section for that range. The rest of the clip keeps its base layout.
How to do it
- Open a recording made in Tella with both screen and camera.
- Open the Tella Agent in the right sidebar, or press Shift + S.
- Say where the demo starts and ends and which side your camera goes.
- Drag the section's edges in the Layout timeline, or ask the agent to adjust.
Good to know
- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- The 50/50 style crops your screen to its half. In landscape, the regular or overlap style keeps the whole screen visible.
- Portrait and square videos stack the split top and bottom, and only offer the 50/50 style.
- Layout sections must be at least 0.2 seconds long.
Frequently asked questions
No. Tella gets an uploaded video as one combined track, so it can't place your camera and screen separately. You can still use Punch-in, a Media layout or Cut out.
Yes. In Tella, open Customize layout, adjust the Side-by-Side preset, name it and click Save under Save as favorite. It appears in the Layout picker's Favorites tab for other screen-and-camera clips.
Yes. Once connected to Tella's MCP server, Claude or ChatGPT can call add_layout with a side-by-side layout, camera position, start time and duration, so only the demo range changes.
