How do I remove a green screen background and put myself over an animated background?
In Tella, add a Tella Motion clip and ask the Tella Agent to place your green screen footage in it, from the chat or your Media Library. The Color key in Tella Motion turns the green transparent, and a Matte choker cleans up the edge. Then describe the background, and the agent builds it behind you as editable layers.
How to do it
- Choose Add clip → New Tella Motion clip in the Tella editor.
- Attach your green screen video or pick it from your Media Library.
- Ask the Tella Agent to key out the green and tighten the edges.
- Describe the background, play the clip and ask for changes.

- Available to everyone: through the Tella Agent on a paid plan or the 7-day trial, or through Claude or ChatGPT on any plan.
- Evenly lit green backdrops key more cleanly than wrinkled or shadowed ones.
- A Tella Motion clip has no transcript, layouts or cuts. Graphics are timed in seconds, not to your words.
- A new Tella Motion clip starts as a blank 10-second clip at the end of your video.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Tella's MCP server and it gets the same Tella Motion tools as the Tella Agent. It can place your video, apply the Color key and build the background.
Yes. The Color key in Tella Motion works with any color, and green is the default. Tell the Tella Agent your backdrop is blue, or give it the exact color.
No. The Color key in Tella is for footage shot against a solid colored backdrop. If you recorded in a normal room, use Cut out under Layout to remove the background behind you.
