Add automatic zooms to a screen recording
Auto Zoom turns the clicks in your screen recording into zooms. Or ask the Tella Agent to zoom in at the moments you name from your transcript.
Try it in Tella
Paste a prompt into the Tella Agent in the editor, or into Claude or ChatGPT connected to Tella, then ask for changes.
Generate zooms from my clicks across this whole video using the Focused style. Then remove the zooms in the two sections where I'm just talking over the Brightwell dashboard, and turn on Shrink camera during zooms.
Zoom in at 2x on the export button when I say "now hit export", and on the invoice total when I say "there's your balance". Hold each zoom for about three seconds and use a hard cut out of the second one.
This is a Quillmark settings tutorial. Regenerate the zooms with the Gentle style, and remove any zoom in the first five seconds while I introduce the page.
How do I add automatic zooms to a screen recording?
In the Tella editor, press E to open Effect, then click Generate under Zooms. Auto Zoom places zooms on your clicks in one of five styles, from Gentle to Intense. You can also ask the Tella Agent in the chat on the right of the editor, for example "Zoom in when I click the Settings button". Auto Zoom needs recorded cursor data, but you or the Tella Agent can add a manual zoom with a fixed focus point to any screen recording.
How to do it
- Open your screen recording in the Tella editor. If the sidebar on the right is hidden, press Shift + S to show the Tella Agent chat.
- Ask the Tella Agent to generate zooms from your clicks, or name the moments to zoom on by what you say.
- Name a style if you want one: Gentle, Subtle, Moderate, Focused or Intense. Moderate is the default.
- Press E to check the zoom cards on the Effect timeline. Drag, resize or delete them, or ask the Tella Agent for changes.
Good to know
- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- Auto Zoom uses cursor data from the Tella Mac and Windows apps, and from a Chrome tab recorded with the Tella Chrome extension. Web recordings and Chrome extension recordings of a window or entire screen have no cursor data. Single window recordings from the Windows app have it from version 0.15.0.
- Zooms apply to the footage in the layout's Screen slot, not the camera.
- Generated zooms don't move when you add cuts later. Delete them and generate again to fit your edits.

Tella then adds click-based zooms to eligible screen recordings once their uploads finish. It uses the last Auto Zoom style you picked in the editor, or Moderate if you haven't picked one.
Generate is unavailable and the Zooms panel tells you why. You can still select a range, click Add zoom or press Z, and set a fixed target and scale yourself. You can also ask the Tella Agent to do it.
Yes. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Tella's MCP server. It can generate zooms from your clicks in the same five styles. It can also add a zoom at a set time, either with a fixed focus point or following the cursor.
