Blur emails, API keys and customer data in a screen recording
Ask the Tella Agent to blur emails, API keys and customer names in your screen recording, for exactly as long as they're on screen.
Try it in Tella
Paste a prompt into the Tella Agent in the editor, or into Claude or ChatGPT connected to Tella, then ask for changes.
Blur the email address in the top-right account menu for as long as it's visible, and the API key on the Developers page from when it appears until I leave that page. Then show me a frame at the start and end of each blur.
In the Brindlecrest admin demo, blur the Customers table from 0:42 to 1:15, but leave the column headers readable. Make the blur a little larger than the table so no edges show.
The invoice for Larkspur Dental scrolls up between 2:10 and 2:18. Cover the billing address at each position as it moves, using back-to-back blurs with no gap between them.
How do I blur emails, API keys or customer data in a screen recording?
In Tella's editor, tell the Tella Agent what to hide and when it's on screen, for example "Blur the API key on the Developers page while it's visible." It adds a blur over that area of the screen recording for that time range. To do it yourself, open Effect → Blur & highlight (or press E), click the plus button, drag the blur over the detail on the canvas, and set its timing on the Effect timeline.
How to do it
- Open your video in the Tella editor and type in the Tella Agent chat in the right sidebar.
- Name each detail to hide and roughly when it's on screen.
- Ask the agent to show you frames at the start and end of each blur.
- To fine-tune a blur, select it on the canvas to move or resize it, or drag its card's edges on the Effect timeline.
Good to know
- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- A blur is a fixed area and doesn't follow moving content. For a scroll or a moving window, split the blur at the playhead (X) and move each half, or add one blur per position. A blur set to Smooth must be switched to Hard cut before you can split it.
- Blurs only cover footage in a layout's Screen slot, such as your screen recording or uploaded video. Your camera isn't blurred this way.
- Anyone who can edit the video can delete a blur, and exports made before you added it still show the detail. If a real API key or password was recorded, rotate it too.
Frequently asked questions
No. Tella doesn't add blurs until you ask. Tell the Tella Agent what to hide, such as an email address or an API key, and it places a blur for the time it's on screen. Check the frames where the detail first and last appears.
Intensity makes a blur heavier, up to three times the standard blur. Lowering it never makes the blur lighter than standard, so whatever it covers stays hidden. Transition sets whether the blur appears with a Hard cut (the default) or fades in and out with Smooth.
Yes. Tella's MCP server has add_blur, update_blur and remove_blur tools. A connected AI app can look at frames of your video with get_video_frame, then place each blur by position, size and time range.
