LinkedIn videos you post to your feed can be up to 5 GB and 15 minutes long, at any resolution from 256x144 to 4096x2304 and any aspect ratio from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1. LinkedIn video file types
LinkedIn accepts these video files on desktop, iOS and Android:
- MP4
- MOV
- AVI
- WEBM
- MKV
- WMV
- VC1, MPEG (MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG1VIDEO), DVVIDEO, QTRLE and TSCC2
MOV files from an iPhone or a Mac upload fine. The one to watch is ProRes: LinkedIn says a ProRes file may upload but won't finish processing. If you're unsure, convert the file to MP4 with H.264 before you post it.
Video ads only take MP4 files encoded with H.264 or VP8, with AAC or MPEG4 audio.
LinkedIn video file size
You can upload videos as large as 5 GB to your feed, and every file must be at least 75 KB. A 15-minute 1080p video fits well inside that limit.
Video ads are capped at 500 MB.
LinkedIn video length
A regular video post can be up to 15 minutes long. The minimum is 3 seconds when you upload from a computer and 2 seconds from the LinkedIn mobile app.
Video ads can run from 3 seconds to 30 minutes. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds for ads so they qualify for every placement in the feed and the LinkedIn Audience Network. In-stream video ads can be up to 90 seconds.
Just because you have 15 minutes doesn't mean you need them. Short videos that make one point are easier to finish in a scrolling feed.
LinkedIn video dimensions and resolution
Feed videos can be any resolution from 256x144 to 4096x2304 (4K). In practice:
- 1920 x 1080 (1080p) is the safe default for landscape screen recordings, demos and talking-head videos.
- 3840 x 2160 (4K) fits inside the limit if you want the sharpest version of a product demo.
- 256x144 is the smallest LinkedIn accepts. Anything that low will look soft on most screens.
For video ads, LinkedIn gives exact pixel ranges for each ratio:
| Aspect ratio | Recommended size | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16:9 landscape | 1920 x 1080 or 1200 x 675 | 640 x 360 | 1920 x 1080 |
| 1:1 square | — | 360 x 360 | 1920 x 1920 |
| 4:5 vertical (recommended) | 720 x 900 | 360 x 450 | 1080 x 1350 |
| 9:16 vertical | 720 x 1280 | 360 x 640 | 1080 x 1920 |
LinkedIn video aspect ratio
Feed videos can use any aspect ratio from 1:2.4 (tall) to 2.4:1 (wide), so landscape, square and vertical videos all upload without cropping.
For ads, LinkedIn supports 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16, and marks 4:5 vertical as its recommended ratio. Vertical and square videos take up more of the feed on a phone than landscape ones.
Whatever the ratio, keep text, logos and anything important away from the edges. LinkedIn's interface can cover the top, bottom and sides of a video.
LinkedIn video frame rate and bit rate
Feed videos can be 10 to 60 fps with a bit rate of 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps. Most screen recordings and camera videos export at 24, 30 or 60 fps, which all work.
Video ads need a frame rate under 30 fps.
Why won't my video upload to LinkedIn?
Work through these in order:
- Check the length. Anything over 15 minutes won't post to your feed.
- Check the file size. It must be between 75 KB and 5 GB.
- Check the format. ProRes and other unusual codecs can upload but fail while processing. Export an MP4 with H.264 instead.
- Check the resolution and frame rate. It must be between 256x144 and 4096x2304 and between 10 and 60 fps.
- Keep the app open on iPhone. If the LinkedIn app goes into the background, the upload can stall. Once processing starts, you can switch apps. Android uploads keep going in the background.
- Move iCloud videos to your phone first. The LinkedIn mobile app can't upload videos that are only stored in iCloud.
How to make a video that fits LinkedIn's specs with Tella
Tella records your screen and camera together, so you can make demos, walkthroughs and talking-head videos for LinkedIn without a separate editor.
- Pick the shape before you share. In the editor's canvas size menu, choose 16:9, 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, or the LinkedIn post preset (1.91:1, 1200 x 628). Your layouts adapt to the new shape.
- Export in up to 4K. 4K exports stay inside LinkedIn's 4096x2304 limit.
- Add captions. Tella transcribes every recording, so you can burn captions into the video or download them as an SRT file for a LinkedIn ad.
- Publish straight to LinkedIn. From Share → Publish, Tella posts the video to your personal LinkedIn profile. Videos published this way can be 3 seconds to 30 minutes long and up to 500 MB.
Once your video is up, you can also download a video from LinkedIn to reuse it elsewhere.
