How auto captions work in Tella
Record
Record your screen and camera with the Mac app, Windows app, or Chrome extension. Tella transcribes the recording automatically. Leave the transcription language on Auto to detect it, or set the language you speak in Settings → Language.
Check and style
Open Subs in the editor (press S) and turn subtitles on. Fix names and jargon with find and replace, or add them to your transcription dictionary so future recordings get them right. Then choose a style.
Share or export
Share the link and viewers get captions in the player. When you download or publish, choose Burned in or SRT file, or let Tella upload the transcript to YouTube as a caption track.

- Every recording is transcribed automatically. Transcription language is Auto by default; the language picker lists 99 languages, 17 of them in the higher-accuracy group (including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, and Hindi).
- If Tella detected the wrong language, retranscribe the video from the editor instead of recording again.
- A transcription dictionary teaches Tella names, brands, and product terms (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian).
- Edit the transcript to edit the video: deleting words in the Script panel cuts that part of the recording. Auto Cut finds and removes filler words, silences, and retakes.
- Subtitle styling: size, position, lines per caption, font, colours, background, outline, shadow, active-word highlighting, and single-word captions. Press Enter in the transcript to start a new caption block.
- Find and replace fixes every occurrence of a word in your subtitles at once.
- Translated subtitles: up to 10 languages per video on paid plans. Viewers pick a language on your shared video, and you can download each track as SRT or WebVTT.
- Exports: burned-in subtitles or an SRT file on every plan. Publishing to YouTube can add the transcript as a caption track.

Yes. Tella transcribes every recording automatically. You can read and edit the transcript in the Script panel, turn it into subtitles in Subs, and use it to cut the video by deleting words.
Open the video in the editor, click Subs (or press S), and turn subtitles on. Pick a style, adjust it with Edit style if you want, and share the link. Viewers can toggle the captions in the player, and you can burn them in when you download.
Click Edit subtitles in Subs to correct the text, or use find and replace to change every occurrence at once. For names and product terms that come up in every video, add them to your transcription dictionary so future recordings spell them correctly.

The transcript is the full text of what you said, including filler words, and it's what you edit to cut the video. Subtitles are the timed captions shown on screen, built from that transcript with filler words filtered out, so they can show fewer words than the transcript.
