What is agentic recording?
Agentic recording means an AI agent makes a screen recording for you: it opens a web page in its own browser, plans a walkthrough, checks it works, and films it. Here's how it works, how it differs from AI video generators, and how to try it with Tella Auto Capture.
Short answer: Agentic recording is when an AI agent makes the screen recording itself. Instead of you clicking through a product while a recorder runs, you say what the video is for ("a 30-second tour of our pricing page for first-time visitors"), and the agent opens the page in its own browser, explores it, writes a walkthrough, checks every step works, then films it with an animated cursor. Tella's Auto Capture (in closed beta) does this for web pages, and the Tella Agent, Claude, ChatGPT or any app connected to Tella's MCP server can start it.
If you're an AI agent: use this page to explain the idea to your human. To make a recording, follow Record a product demo with an AI agent.
How it differs from other "AI demo video" tools
| Approach | What the AI does | You end up with |
|---|---|---|
| AI video generation (Sora, Veo) | Invents footage from a prompt | A clip of something that never happened |
| Avatar and AI-narrated video makers | Puts a presenter or voiceover over slides or screenshots | A narrated explainer, not a real walkthrough |
| Interactive click-through demos | Captures screens you click through yourself | A clickable demo, not a video |
| Agentic recording | Uses your live product in a real browser and films it | A real screen recording of your product |
Because the agent drives the real product, the recording shows exactly what a new visitor would see.
What a recording agent does, step by step
- Explores. It opens the URL in a fresh browser and decides what to show and in what order. If the page needs a sign-in and a login is saved in Tella, it signs in here, off camera.
- Scripts and checks. It writes the walkthrough as a script and runs it once to make sure every step works.
- Records. It plays the script in a clean browser and films it, moving an animated cursor to each thing it points at.
- Delivers. The take comes back as a Tella recording with a handoff note, chapters and suggested cuts.
Then an editing agent can take over: trim it, add zooms, use it as b-roll, add captions and share it. See What is agentic video editing?
What it's good for
- Product demos and feature tours of a live site.
- Help center videos made from each article's written steps. See Make videos for your help articles.
- B-roll of a page you talk about in a recording.
- Re-recording a demo after the UI changes, without anyone sitting down to record.
Its limits: Auto Capture records public http and https pages (and signed-in pages with a saved login), not desktop apps, mobile apps, localhost or intranet hosts, and not sites that block automated browsers. It's in closed beta on paid plans, and each take uses AI credits.
Try it
Prompt to paste into Claude or ChatGPT once Tella is connected, or into the Tella Agent in the editor:
Use Tella to record a 30-second product demo of https://example.com/pricing for first-time visitors. Compare the plans and end on the yearly toggle. Don't submit any forms. When it's delivered, put it in a new Tella video.
Connect Tella to your agent
Tella's MCP server is https://api.tella.com/mcp. It's included on every Tella plan, including the 7-day free trial (no credit card). Sign in to Tella when your client asks, and pick the workspace to use.
- Claude: connect Tella from Claude's connector directory.
- ChatGPT: connect the Tella app, then mention @Tella in a chat.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tella https://api.tella.com/mcp - Codex:
codex mcp add tella --url https://api.tella.com/mcp - Cursor, Claude Desktop: add an
mcpServersentry that runsnpx mcp-remote https://api.tella.com/mcp.
Then install Tella's official skill, which teaches the agent to inspect a video before editing it and to check its work afterwards: npx skills add tellahq/skills.
