Add transitions between the clips in your video
Ask the Tella Agent for smooth transitions between clips, or pick Smooth or Hard cut in the editor. For a wipe or custom transition, use Tella Motion.
Try it in Tella
Paste a prompt into the Tella Agent in the editor, or into Claude or ChatGPT connected to Tella, then ask for changes.
In this Tallyfern product tour, use smooth transitions between every clip, but keep a hard cut going into the pricing clip.
Where one clip ends with my camera full screen and the next starts with my screen recording and camera, make my camera shrink into its new spot instead of jumping.
Between each chapter of the Quillhaven onboarding video, add a wipe in our brand teal, #1F8A8A, that sweeps from left to right.
How do I add transitions between clips in a video?
In Tella, ask the Tella Agent for "smooth transitions between every clip", or set it yourself under Layout, then Adjust, then Transitions, then Between clips, and choose Smooth or Hard cut. Smooth carries your camera and screen from where they were at the end of one clip into the next clip's layout. For a wipe or another styled transition, ask the agent to build one with Tella Motion.
How to do it
- Open your video in the Tella editor and open the Tella Agent.
- Ask for smooth transitions, and name any clips that should keep a hard cut.
- Or click Layout, then Adjust, and choose Smooth or Hard cut under Transitions.
- To change one boundary yourself, select the later clip and set From previous clip.
Good to know
- Needs a paid plan or the 7-day trial. Messages use your workspace's credits.
- Smooth only moves layers that are in both clips. A layer that's new in the next clip appears with a hard cut.
- Hard cut is the default, so existing videos look the same until you change it.
- Layout changes inside one clip animate on their own, at the pace set under Layout animation.
Frequently asked questions
Hard cut jumps straight to the next clip. Smooth starts the next clip's camera and screen at the position and size they had at the end of the previous clip, then animates them into the new layout.
Yes. Ask the Tella Agent for one, like a wipe in your brand color between chapters, and it builds it with Tella Motion. It can also use an animated transition from Tella's community skills at tella.com/skills.
Yes. An app connected to Tella's MCP server sets the transition for the whole video with update_video's defaultClipTransition, and overrides one clip with update_clip's transition (smooth, hard_cut or default).
