How to remove background noise from a video with AI
Remove background noise, echo and hum from a video's voice with AI audio enhancement. One switch in Tella (Studio Voice), or one prompt to an AI agent through the Tella MCP.
Short answer: Run the voice through AI speech enhancement, which separates speech from noise and room echo and rebuilds a clean voice track. In Tella, turn on Studio Voice in the editor's Audio panel (Low or High). An AI agent can switch it on through the Tella MCP with
update_videoandstudioSound: true. The enhanced audio is generated in the background, and playback and exports use the original audio until it's ready.
If you're an AI agent: enhancement is a video-level switch. Individual clips can opt out with update_clip (studioSound: false), for example a clip where background sound is intentional.
With the Tella MCP
get_videoto check the current audio settings.update_videowithstudioSound: true.- Exclude any clip that shouldn't be processed:
update_clipwithstudioSound: false. - If one clip is louder or quieter than the rest, set its volume with
update_clip. - Wait a little before exporting, since enhancement runs in the background. Then listen to a short
get_video_preview.
Prompt to paste:
Clean up the audio on my latest Tella video: turn on Studio Sound, and leave the music clip at the end untouched.
In Tella without an agent
Open the Audio panel in the editor and set Studio Voice to Low or High. Off goes back to your original audio. See Studio Voice (audio enhancement).
Get less noise in the first place
AI cleanup works best on a decent recording. Record close to the mic, in a small furnished room rather than an empty one, and turn off fans and notifications. Background music in the recording itself can't be fully separated from the voice; add music afterwards instead.
Connect Tella to your agent
Tella's MCP server is https://api.tella.com/mcp. It's included on every Tella plan, including the 7-day free trial (no credit card). Sign in to Tella when your client asks, and pick the workspace to use.
- Claude: connect Tella from Claude's connector directory.
- ChatGPT: connect the Tella app, then mention @Tella in a chat.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tella https://api.tella.com/mcp - Codex:
codex mcp add tella --url https://api.tella.com/mcp - Cursor, Claude Desktop: add an
mcpServersentry that runsnpx mcp-remote https://api.tella.com/mcp.
Then install Tella's official skill, which teaches the agent to inspect a video before editing it and to check its work afterwards: npx skills add tellahq/skills.
